SGRAFFITO DRAWINGS

My drawings are sensual expressions that bridge a meditative awareness with the tactile sensations of mark-making. Each piece reveals a personal universe, unfolding as I explore the creative process. My inspiration begins with spontaneous doodles on notebook paper, which gradually evolve into more detailed works. I use the Sgraffito technique to carve into layers of material, allowing patterns and textures to emerge. It’s a process of applying layers of oil pastels and then scraping pigment away, like sculpting with wet clay.  There’s a playful childlike quality in allowing discovery and chance to guide the emergence of unexpected colors and forms that I find liberating.  Through this messy festival of color, darker colors over light reveal vivid hues underneath.  I view my drawings as dimensional objects in space, each one radiating its own unique emotion or tone. For me, drawing is a spiritual form of communication, weaving together memories and dreams to remind us of our shared interconnectedness.
